The story about how Java Queen Coffee House came to be:
My husband Sean and I have been married for 12 years in October with 2 beautiful girls ages 10 and 5. We moved to Hellertown 6 years ago from a small town in Bucks County named Upper Black Eddy. My in-laws own a general store in Upper Black Eddy called the "Homestead General Store". Both my husband and I had worked several years at the general store and came to love the daily interaction with customers and friends. After my in-laws took a trip to Europe they had decided to join the world of coffee roasting back in the spring of 2006.
Sean and I had been contemplating the idea of opening a small coffee shop where we would of course sell "Homestead Coffee". We really wanted to open our shop in Hellertown so that I wouldn't have any conflicts with my girls and school. Plus we love Hellertown and really thought that our vision of our shop would fit perfect here. After searching for the perfect spot in Hellertown it started to look like we might have to venture out into Bethlehem or somewhere in that vacinity. One day my husband was getting his hair cut at "Secrets Hair and Nail Salon" and the owner had recently purchased the building on main street which Carson's Hardware use to occupy. Just on a whim Sean asked the owner if she would like to rent a small space to us for our coffee shop and pitched the idea to her. She didn't have to think very long and had her architect change the plans to accomodate us in a small space in the front of the building. The rest is history.
We then had to decide on a name and had been toying with the idea for quite some time. My youngest daughter is very much a drama queen so that was how we came up with the name Java Queen. We also thought that being connected to the hair salon it would fit well with all the ladies getting pampered by Secrets or enjoying a day at the spa.
Our shop is a family run business mainly employed by just myself and husband with the exception of when my sister-in-law comes in twice a week so I can run some errands and get odds and end things done.
We are very happy with our business venture so far and very proud of what we've been able to do with it. We are hoping to be a business owner in Hellertown for a very long time and hope that all our regulars keep stopping in to chat and drink some great coffee as well as welcoming some new customers.
Stop by anytime to check us out and have a great cup of fresh roasted coffee!!
